What is the ruling on the interest that non-Islamic banks provide to those who deposit their money in, for example, a savings account?
Answer
In the name of Allah, it is permissible for a Muslim to take that interest, but it must be subjected to khums immediately upon receipt. If any remains at the end of the five-year cycle, it must be khummsed again. One should know that khums is due at the time the interest is received from the bank. Allah knows best.
